Digital Tech

Swansea is leading the charge in digital innovation, backed by major investment and world-class infrastructure that is transforming the region into a connected, future-ready hub for business.

£175 Million Investment in Next-Gen Infrastructure

As part of the £1.3 billion Swansea Bay City Deal, the region is benefitting from £175 million of targeted investment in digital infrastructure. This commitment is laying the foundation for long-term economic growth and smarter, more connected communities.

Swansea Council has partnered with Freshwave to deploy advanced small cell technology on street lighting throughout the city centre – enhancing mobile network capacity during peak times. These small cells also enable future smart city applications, such as air quality monitoring and intelligent waste management.

This ambitious Digital Infrastructure Programme is forecast to add £318 million to the regional economy, helping future-proof Swansea for the digital age.

Pioneering Connectivity & Research

A UK leader in GFast broadband technology, Swansea continues to set the standard for fast, reliable digital connectivity. The city is also home to Swansea University’s Computational Foundry, a nationally recognised centre of excellence for computational and mathematical sciences.

The Foundry bridges academia and industry to drive innovation in cybersecurity, health technologies, and digital transformation, positioning Swansea as a magnet for tech talent and industry collaboration.

A Thriving Digital Business Ecosystem

Swansea’s digital technology sector is growing rapidly, with a surge of new enterprises choosing the city as a launchpad for innovation. Central to this growth is the Innovation Matrix: a state-of-the-art facility in the SA1 Innovation Quarter, operated by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. It provides a collaborative environment for entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors focused on digital innovation.

Adding to this dynamic ecosystem is Tramshed Tech, a thriving hub that connects tech, digital, and creative businesses with the spaces, support, and skills they need to succeed.

With this robust infrastructure, a growing talent pipeline, and a collaborative spirit, Swansea is the ideal place to invest, innovate, and grow in the digital economy.
