Future Developments
Building on the success of Swansea’s recent transformation there are many plans in place to enhance the city even further.
From new entertainment and leisure districts to ambitious green energy projects, here are a selection of Swansea’s future developments.
City Waterfront
A new destination for residents and visitors to gather, relax and enjoy the stunning sweep of Swansea Bay. A new district will be created between the existing Swansea Arena and the Civic Centre with places to eat, drink and entertain as well as the creation of up to 600 new homes. The City Waterfront will include 150,000sqft of commercial space, an aquarium, a hotel and workspaces.

Hafod Copperworks Phase 2
Swansea Council and Urban Splash are developing a new strategic spatial framework and development vision for this historic site on the banks for the River Tawe. The plan sets out a range of development plots and opportunities – both commercial and residential – to complement the multi-million pounds of public and private investment already going into the site.

Tidal Lagoon
This £6.25bn project will include a green energy transport hub, solar energy generating facilities, and a new manufacturing facility making high-tech batteries. The project is set to include a tidal lagoon, eco-homes anchored in the water, and an oceanic and climate change research centre. The project will create 2,500 permanent jobs and support a further 16,000 jobs across Wales and the UK.

Skyline
A world-class leisure destination on Kilvey Hill overlooking Swansea to include accessible gondolas, a two-way zipline, luge rides, sky swing, mountain bike trails, children’s play area and F&B outlets. Skyline Swansea will be the latest attraction to join the Skyline group which already operates similar developments in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Queenstown. The attraction is set to create 100 jobs with another 478 during construction.

Swansea Bay City Deal Campuses Project
Connecting commercial organisations with academia in the life sciences, health, well-being and sports sectors. This major development close to both our city’s hospitals will see new innovation space and improved transport links to facilitate collaboration and growth.

St Helens Development
St Helen’s Sports Ground is being redeveloped to accommodate the Ospreys for their 2025/26 season onwards. The development includes the installation of a 4G pitch, new stands, a fan zone area and a refurbished club house.

Castle Cinema
Part of the Castle Square improvement works, the sensitive restoration of the former Castle Cinema will include both small scale office accommodation and two storeys of F&B space facing outward towards the castle. Many of the building’s original features will be retained.

Kings Lane Corner
The next phase of the Urban Village development will see Kings Lane Corner house a series of shipping container-style units to accommodate small-scale businesses alongside landscaped open spaces. The development will also include new affordable homes.
